Our Practice Philosophy & Standards of Care

A dental implant is not a quick cosmetic fix. It is a careful, step-by-step process. Strong results rely on three things: an accurate diagnosis, precise surgery, and steady long-term care.

1. All Care Under One Roof

We plan, place, and restore your implant in one clinic. This removes the gaps that can happen when separate practices share your care. Keeping every stage in-house means:

  • Your surgeon and restorative dentist follow the same plan.
  • The final crown is matched to the exact implant position.
  • Your teeth line up naturally and feel comfortable when you chew.

2. 3D-Guided Surgery

We plan every implant in 3D before surgery. High-resolution CBCT scans and digital mouth scans build a clear model of your jaw. With this model, we can:

  • Map your bone, tooth roots, and sinus spaces.
  • Make a custom surgical guide on-site.
  • Place the implant within a fraction of a millimetre of the plan.

Careful planning protects nearby tissue and supports faster, more predictable healing.

3. A Stable Foundation First

An implant lasts when it sits in healthy bone and firm gum tissue. So we treat weak sites first. Preparatory care may include:

  • Socket preservation after a tooth is removed.
  • Guided bone regeneration to rebuild bone.
  • Soft-tissue grafting to thicken the gum.

A stable base lowers the risk of implant overload and gum infection.

Lead Implant Clinicians

Surgical & Restorative Team

Our lead clinicians look after every stage of your implant — from bone grafting and 3D-guided surgery to the final restoration.

Dr Virginia Han - Lead Implant Clinician
  • BDSc HONS (UQ)
  • 3D Planning Lead
  • Complex Implant Cases

Dr Virginia Han

Principal Dental Surgeon & Lead Implant Clinician

Dr Virginia Han leads the implant team at Brisbane Dental Implants. She graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland. Since then, she has focused her career on implant surgery and oral rehabilitation. She is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and the International Team for Implantology (ITI), and stays active in clinical research and teaching.

Training & Clinical Focus

Virginia has advanced training in digital guided surgery, bone grafting, and full-arch restorations. Her main focus is planning surgery in 3D before treatment begins. She designs each surgical guide in-house to set every implant's:

  • depth
  • angle
  • spacing

This keeps a safe distance from nerves and sinuses.

Philosophy of Care

Virginia puts safety and predictability first. She plans each step in a virtual model before surgery. This shortens time in the chair and reduces tissue trauma, which can make recovery more comfortable. For patients with significant bone loss, she maps out safe bone grafting options.

Dr Sae Mi Bok - Implant & Cosmetic Dentist
  • BDSc (UQ)
  • EAO Member
  • Bone Regeneration Focus

Dr Sae Mi Bok

Dental Surgeon & Dentist with Advanced Training in Implant Dentistry

Dr Sae Mi Bok graduated from the University of Queensland. She brings a broad international background to our surgical team, with postgraduate training across Europe and New Zealand. As a member of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), she follows evidence-based European surgical methods in her work in Bulimba.

Training & Clinical Focus

Sae focuses on the biology that supports an implant. She has advanced training in:

  • Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR)
  • sinus floor elevation
  • soft-tissue grafting

She works to build thick, protective gum tissue around each implant. This tissue helps keep the area healthy, especially in visible front-tooth zones.

Philosophy of Care

Sae believes an implant lasts when the bone and gum around it stay healthy. She uses micro-surgical techniques to protect natural tissue. She also screens each patient carefully and explains what is needed to build a stable, long-lasting result.

Clinical Support

Restorative & Maintenance Team

Good implant results rely on careful preparation and steady, long-term care.

Dr Elsa Zhu

Dr Elsa Zhu

Restorative & Prosthetic Dentist

Dr Elsa Zhu graduated from the University of Queensland. Her postgraduate study focused on digital prosthodontics and bite rehabilitation. She handles much of the pre-surgery preparation, making sure nearby teeth are free of decay and infection before an implant is placed.

Elsa designs and fits custom zirconia crowns and multi-unit implant bridges. She works closely with our on-site lab to match each restoration for colour, shape, and bite. The aim is a result that looks natural and feels comfortable when you chew.

Dr Kieren Tso

Dr Kieren Tso

Dentist (Honours)

Dr Kieren Tso graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland. He runs the diagnostic and screening stages of our implant care. He uses digital scanning and intraoral cameras to record your starting bite and to track early healing as the implant settles in.

Kieren is trained in whole-body health checks. He reviews conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, and bone-related medicines to confirm you are ready to heal well. He coordinates each step of the screening process.

Mr Dennis Han

Mr Dennis Han

Oral Health Therapist & Periodontal Coordinator

Dennis Han graduated from the University of Queensland and leads our periodontal care. Implants need thorough cleaning to stop plaque building up around the metal collar, which can cause bone loss over time.

Dennis builds a tailored maintenance plan for every patient. He cleans implant parts with special carbon-fibre instruments that will not scratch the polished titanium surface, helping keep the surrounding tissue healthy.

Patient Safety

Clinical Governance & Australian Dental Standards

We operate under strict clinical protocols that prioritize patient safety, informed consent, and structural reliability above all else.

AHPRA & Dental Board Compliance

Every clinician here is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and follows the Dental Board of Australia's guidelines. We share clear, evidence-based facts, explain each step, and discuss all surgical risks before treatment begins.

Sterilization & Infection Control (AS/NZS 4815)

Patient safety comes first. Our sterilisation department follows the joint Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4815. Every instrument is tracked and checked through digital autoclave records, so each implant procedure uses sterile tools.

TGA-Approved Clinical Materials

We use only TGA-approved (Therapeutic Goods Administration) implant systems and parts. Our standard system is MIS and our premium option is Astra Tech — both backed by decades of clinical study. We keep full traceability records for every implant placed.

Common Questions

Implant Clinicians & Qualifications FAQs

It helps to understand who provides your care and how treatment works. Below, we answer common questions about our clinicians' qualifications, safety, and team structure.

What specific training and qualifications do your implant clinicians hold?

Our team are dental surgeons registered in Australia, each with extensive postgraduate training. Dr Virginia Han holds a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours from the University of Queensland (UQ) and has completed advanced surgical programs in Australia and overseas. Our clinicians belong to leading bodies such as the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and the International Team for Implantology (ITI).

Who performs the surgical and restorative phases of my implant treatment?

We manage both stages in one coordinated plan. Our surgical leads, Dr Virginia Han or Dr Sae Mi Bok, place the titanium implant and focus on bone stability and accurate position. Our restorative dentist, Dr Elsa Zhu, then designs and fits the custom zirconia crown, working with our in-house lab to get the bite and appearance right.

What is the difference between a general dentist and an experienced implant clinician?

A general dentist focuses on prevention, fillings, and basic restorations. Implant dentistry needs extra training in oral surgery, bone grafting, sinus anatomy, and digital planning. An experienced implant clinician spends their postgraduate training and daily work on implant surgery, managing bone problems, and complex restorations.

How does having an on-site digital laboratory benefit my treatment?

Our on-site lab lets our clinicians work side by side with the technicians. Instead of sending models or scans to an outside lab, they review files together, design custom abutments, and match colour and shade by hand. This close teamwork helps crowns fit more predictably and cuts down on repeat appointments.

Are all materials and implants used in your Bulimba clinic approved for use in Australia?

Yes. We use only Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) registered implants, titanium abutments, and dental ceramics. We work with trusted brands such as MIS and Astra Tech, both supported by long-term peer-reviewed research. We keep full traceability records for every patient.

How do you ensure clinical procedures meet Australian health guidelines?

We follow all AHPRA guidelines and infection-control rules (AS/NZS 4815). Digital systems track every autoclave sterilisation cycle. We also use 3D CBCT imaging to map structures such as nerve pathways and sinus cavities before surgery, so each step is planned with accuracy.

Can older patients or those with existing health conditions safely get dental implants?

Yes. Older patients can have implants when their general health is stable. During screening, Dr Kieren Tso reviews medical history, bone density, and risk factors such as controlled diabetes or certain medicines. If the jawbone is thin, our surgeons can discuss bone grafting to build a secure base.
